We sent all three of our 2010 reds in to Michael Cooper for evaluation as part of the June 2012 Winestate Magazine Recent Releases tasting, and we received the following feedback:
Peacock Sky Waiheke Island Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 ****½
Dark and sturdy, with fresh cassis, plum, spice and nut flavours, showing excellent ripeness and richness. Concentrated, firmly structured red with obvious cellaring potential; open 2014+.
Peacock Sky Waiheke Island Malbec Limited Edition 2010 ****½
Classy young wine, blended with a splash of cabernet sauvignon (6%) and matured for over a year in barrels (mostly French.) Bold and brambly, with deep, bright colour and concentrated blackcurrant and plum flavours, braced by firm tannins. Powerful, stylish red, well worth cellaring.
Peacock Sky Waiheke Island Merlot/Malbec 2010 ***½
Deeply coloured blend of merlot (71%), malbec (16%) and cabernet sauvignon (13%), with a fragrant, plummy, slightly nutty bouquet. Full-bodied and fruit-packed, in a sturdy, sweet-fruited style with moderate complexity and good tannin support. Drink now or cellar. Verging on four stars.
