Not long after we crushed these grapes we realised we had something very special on our hands. This was the blackest Malbec we'd seen, truly reflecting the excellent growing conditions for this vintage. Yields were quite low, and during blending we allocated almost all of the available Malbec to our other 2013 red blends, but the wine was so good on its own we just had to do something special with it. So, we hijacked a very small amount and put it aside...
After a light fining, we bottled the wine by hand, unfiltered, into some gorgeous, heavy duty bottles, which were then hand corked. The corks were protected with a layer of sealing wax, and labels were then applied by hand. Each bottle was then sequence numbered from 1 to 100, again by hand. To complete the package, each bottle is presented in a Peacock Sky branded wooden gift box, nestled on a bed of wood shavings.
We think that people are going to have fun choosing which sequence number they want, perhaps a birth year, a lucky number, or some other significant combination of digits. So we've devised a tracking chart showing which numbers are still available, and we'll try to keep it updated on a regular basis.
Our final blend:
Alcohol by volume 14.0%
Bar Code: 9421010795747
Detailed Tasting Notes
Only 100 examples of this intense, inky black beauty were produced. Reflecting the excellent vintage, this wine shows excellent concentration and deep colour. Hints of blackberry, cherry, plum, cassis and chocolate mingling with fresh, crisp acidity. Cellaring recommendation: Hold in cellar 4-5 years before drinking, decant upon opening as unfiltered wine may display slight sediment.
